  1. On behalf of Sue Roberts @ Langley Bowls Tour Organiser

It as lovely being with your group from Bellingham this year on the Langley Bowls Tour this year. I have never met such a friendly, easing going, fun group of people before. Hope you all come with me next year and if anyone else interested, the more the merrier.

Thanks to all the volunteers for another successful Belle Trophy final. Couldn't be done without the help setting up greens, preparing and serving food, running the bar, marking and measuring and clearing up afterwards. West Wickham were the successful winners this year followed by Bibcos, Bromley and Halls. Belle Trophy has been run by Bellingham for 39 years and I hope it continues to be enjoyed and bring so many pleasant bowlers to Bellingham. Thank you all.

See below rather complementary email from one of our Darts Nights against Queensmead: - > Darts > Hi Everyone > QMBC met Bellingham on the 16th March to do battle against a real adversary. They have not lost a match this Winter break. > It was our turn to be the home team which meant we supply the goodies for the buffet. Luckily we had Pura, Pat and Francoise to add the feminine touch to the table display. We even provided a heater for the sausage rolls and curry puffs as well as having a cheese board. Ladies from Bellingham complimented us on our buffet. > It turned out fortunate that four members of our team did not arrive for various reasons. Bellingham with over 30 people turning up for the darts evening had a surplus of players. They arranged to supply us with a variety of six players which made up three QM teams of four. We were all square 3:3 at the break. > After tucking in to the buffet there was a raffle in which I won a bottle of whisky. I then won again allowing Pat to collect a prize and believe it or not I won again allowing Francoise to do the same. Not a bad return for the minority QM group. > After the break we lost the next four matches, 7:3 Oh dear! even with some of Bellingham?s better players helping us out, the score was looking like an humiliation. With two matches left it was Jack?s team and Ron?s team who managed to win making the final score 7:5. Certainly more presentable. > True, the score has no real meaning compared with the general hospitality and friendly banter. It is worth mentioning that some of the players were children, boys and girls who performed very well. Clearly well trained. This venue was a good example in which family and friends gathering together can make a great occasion. > Brian

See below rather complementary email from one of our Darts Nights against QMBC Wickers: - "> Hi everyone > We played darts against Bellingham on Friday 26th . What a friendly lot they are. The games and the hospitality were enjoyed by everyone. With a shortage of QM players we made up the teams with Bellingham players. However, it did not diminish the competitiveness, in fact the Bellingham players seem to relished the opportunity of beating their own side. > > After 4 games we were level pegging 2 /2 with every expectation of winning the overall match. With some rearrangement to ensure everyone gets a game we played 3 games simultaneously using the 3 dartboards that were all beautifully illuminated. All of a sudden we began to realise why Bromley BC were well beaten by Bellingham a few weeks ago. We managed to lose all 3 games with the score now at 5/2 . That was certainly a wake up call. > > During the break we all enjoyed a laugh and a joke, sipping beer and tucking into a superb buffet. Offsetting the disappointment of being behind in the match three of our team managed to walked off with raffle prizes. > > Clearly we needed to win the next 3 games if we were to get a draw. With everyone fired up, the next series of games began. Richard?s team struck gold first with a win. Next Ron?s team also followed with a win and therefore we only needed Mike?s team to bring home the bacon. We all stood and waited with bated breath while each team missed a winning double. ?C?mon you can do it? we cried. Sadly it was all in vain, Bellingham pipped us at the post . We finally lost 6/4. > > Let me say a big thank you to Bellingham members for making the evening most memorable and putting on a super buffet. A special thanks to Paul Buck for organising it. > > We meet Bellingham again on the 16th March in which we supply the buffet. > > Brian"

May I please thank everyone that turned out for the 1st of 2 indoor matches ( Sunday 29-10-2017) we have with Lewisham Bowls Club. Special thanks must go to Dermot Lucey. Dermot came in at the eleventh hour to fill in for Bill Murphy who was taken ill . "Get Well soon Bill". I was very proud of the way that all the Bellingham BC so called "non indoor bowlers" stepped up to the plate and adapted to the very different conditions to our beloved outdoor game. My congrats go to everyone involved as we managed a quite convincing win. Well done. Please have a look at the BBC noticeboard where you will find a selection sheet to add your name for our next indoor match against LBC in January 2018. See soon .

The advertisement for Lewisham Indoor bowling club is displayed at 20 clubs in our area. It is for people who want to play full length bowls at a reasonable price and is an excellent club which I would always recommend. However, if anyone wanted to play short mat bowls, I would thoroughly recommend Bellingham where I played for many years. The two games are completely different.

    Posted on

  48. Ray Evans

Is it just me, or is there something vaguely offensive about an A4 sized poster on display in the clubhouse foyer, inviting readers to join another bowls club? Surely Bellingham has problems enough in attracting new members without resorting to this type of negativity. Would other clubs tolerate adverts on their premises encouraging people to go elsewhere - I doubt it very much! Checkout what's going on at Bellingham over the coming months on the planner now on display in the foyer, or of course on the Calendar of Events page of this website and support your own club by joining in these events with friends and family. Enjoy Bellingham Bowls Club. Best wishes.

Fair comment Beryl. Nobody seems to want to take on the job of maintaining the website for the lawn green bowls section. As you know, I now only belong to the Short Mat section and will continue to update the appropriate pages as required. I'll also update general pages whenever I get info supplied to me, but this virtually never happens! I did offer to put the Bell Moon details on but was told it wasn't needed.

Dear All Please see below e-mail from the Mayor regarding last Saturday 26th May 2012. I would like to thank all involved and especially the enthusiasm shown by all members, whether they be playing for the Mayor or Bellingham. Andrew Smith Dear Andrew, I haven't heard how well (or badly) my team fared in the end but wanted to thank you for an enjoyable occasion and for the gifts. As promised the clock is now keeping good time on my office wall! I hope you all enjoy a successful centenary season. Best Wishes Steve

Fran Chappell suggested I had a look yesterday. Excellent, it has to be the way forward for future generations.

Well done Ray. Great to have up to date news - especially regarding the green closure. It's taken us a 100 years to get online in our own right. Well may it continue. It couldn't have come at a better time.

I don't know the origin or detail of the comps s/sheets, but technically they can be added. These things need talking thru to see if they are being done in the best way for the future uses of the website.
