New players are most welcome to try short mat bowling for the first time. No experience is needed. Just turn up and we will make you feel at home.

Games (roll-ups) are arranged on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday afternoons starting at 1:30pm (please arrive by 1:15pm to ensure you get a game) and finishing by 4:30pm. If the entry door to the clubhouse is closed, ring the bell and someone will come and welcome you in.

There is no formal dress code for short mat bowlers, except for finals weekend competitors and for a couple of other important competitions - however flat shoes must be worn. Dress code for the internal competition finalists and for one-day competitions is white top and grey below the waist.

Short Mat competitions are held throughout the season with dates/times for play to be agreed between competitors (check the short mat diary).

In addition to those mentioned above, there are two one-off competitions, these are:

  • Bert Bush (pairs) Competition
  • Triples Competition

We also organise an internal friendly, but competitive, Friday League which involves playing a number of matches in teams of three against other Club members.

Lastly, we throw out an annual short mat challenge to the Club’s lawn green bowlers who do not normally play short mat and everyone is welcome, players and supporters alike. The winners will hold the Dorothy Kendrick Challenge trophy for the coming year.
