Short Mat Diary & Comps Info 2019/2020

Existing members: Please renew your membership prior to the start of the new season.  Thankyou.

New members: Please attend by 1:00pm on any Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, or 6:45pm for the Monday evening session.

Please arrive no later than 1:15pm to be sure of playing in the first roll ups of the new season.

New players are welcome to try Short Mat bowling at this friendly club (it will cost you just 50p inclusive of tea/coffee, for one or two try out days), with non-competitive games arranged for Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday afternoons starting at 1:30pm (please arrive by 1:15pm) and finishing by 4:30pm. If the entry door to the club house is closed, ring the bell and someone will come and welcome you in.

There is no formal dress code for short mat bowlers, except for finals day competitors and the two one day (see below) competitions - however flat (bowls) shoes must be worn. Dress code for the finalists and one day competitions is white top, grey below the waist.

Short Mat competitions are held throughout the season with dates/times for play (check the short mat diary) to be agreed between competitors.

IMPORTANT: All short mat club competitions must be completed by the dates specified at the head of each round of the competition table.

In addition to the above competitions, there are two one off competitions, these are:

  • Bert Bush Competition
  • Triples Competition

Also, watch this page for more information on the Friendly League which will involve home and away matches to be played on Thursdays.

We also throw out an annual Short Mat challenge to the lawn green bowlers who do not normally play short mat and everyone is welcome, players and supporters alike. The winners will hold the Dorothy Kendrick Challenge trophy for the coming year.

All bowlers, especially those playing in club and league matches, are reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure they are familiar with ESMBA rules for playing the game. Please see the booklet attached to the club notice board.
